FAQ.

Starting care at a new clinic can come with a few questions. We’ve put together answers to some of the things we’re asked most often about our services, appointments, referrals and finding the right practitioner. If you’re still unsure, reach out — we’re happy to point you in the right direction.

I’m not sure which treatment I need. Who should I book with?

You don’t need to know exactly what treatment you need before you come in. Our team takes an individualized approach to care and can help determine which service, practitioner or combination of treatments is most appropriate for your needs.

Whether you’re dealing with pain or an injury, returning to activity, looking to improve your movement, or seeking support for your overall health, we can help guide you toward the right starting point. If you’re unsure, contact the clinic and we’ll help you decide who to book with.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first appointment begins with a conversation about your concerns, goals, health history and what you’d like to get back to doing. Your practitioner will then perform an appropriate assessment to better understand the factors contributing to your symptoms or concerns.

From there, we’ll explain our findings and work with you to develop an individualized treatment plan. Depending on your needs, this may include hands-on treatment, exercise or rehabilitation, education, lifestyle strategies, or other services available through our multidisciplinary team.

Our goal is for you to leave your first appointment with a clear understanding of what’s going on and what the next steps are.

Do I need a referral, and can I use my extended health benefits?

In most cases, you do not need a referral to see one of our practitioners. However, coverage and referral requirements can vary depending on your extended health plan and the service you are receiving.

Many extended health plans provide coverage for services such as chiropractic care, massage therapy, psychotherapy and naturopathic medicine. We recommend checking directly with your insurance provider to confirm your coverage, annual limits and any referral or prescription requirements.

Do you offer more than chiropractic care?

Yes. Summerhill Health Centre is a multidisciplinary clinic offering a range of services under one roof. In addition to chiropractic care and acupuncture, our team includes registered massage therapists, naturopathic medicine, psychotherapy and Shiatsu therapy.

Having multiple disciplines in one clinic allows us to look at your health and recovery from different perspectives and, when appropriate, coordinate care between practitioners.

What conditions or concerns do you treat?

We work with a wide range of musculoskeletal and health concerns, from acute injuries and persistent pain to movement limitations, athletic injuries and rehabilitation.

Our approach is not simply about treating a symptom. We look at the bigger picture, including how you move, your activities, goals and the factors that may be contributing to your problem. Treatment is then tailored to your individual needs and may include hands-on care, acupuncture, massage, rehabilitation exercises, education and other services within the clinic.

If you’re not sure whether we can help with your particular concern, get in touch with us. We’re happy to help you determine the appropriate next step.
